Górujący nad stolicą Węgier kompleks pałacowy, którego początki sięgają XIV wieku. Siedziba władców Węgier, wielokrotnie niszczona i odbudowywana.  W XV wieku był obiektem w stylu włoskiego renesansu, na początku XVII przekształcił się w barokowy pałac, a w połowie wieku XIX – w trakcie przegranego przez Węgrów powstania – został niemal kompletnie zniszczony. Szybko odbudowany, cztery dekady później doczekał się jednak kompleksowej przebudowy w stylu neobarokowym (1890-1912). Autorem jej projektu był Miklós Ybl, twórca wielu słynnych XIX-wiecznych budynków w Budapeszcie. Po jego śmierci (1891) dwudziestoletni proces przebudowy zamku prowadził Alajos Hauszmann. Kolejną katastrofą, której zamek nie przetrwał było oblężenie i walki o Budapeszt pod koniec II wojny światowej. Powojenna odbudowa trwała od lat 60. do lat 80 ubiegłego wieku i nadała budapesztańskiemu zamkowi styl modernistyczny. W ostatnich latach węgierski rząd uruchomił jednak program rekonstrukcji zabytku, którego celem jest przywrócenie architektury całego Wzgórza Zamkowa do stanu zaprojektowanego przez Ybla i zrealizowanego ponad sto lat temu przez Hauszmanna.

Buda Castle. A palace complex towering over the capital of Hungary, dating back to the 14th century. The seat of the rulers of Hungary, destroyed and rebuilt many times. In the 15th century it was an Italian Renaissance-style building, at the beginning of the 17th century it was transformed into a Baroque palace, and in the mid-19th century – during the uprising lost by the Hungarians – it was almost completely destroyed. Quickly rebuilt, four decades later it was comprehensively rebuilt in the neo-baroque style (1890-1912). The author of its design was Miklós Ybl, the creator of many famous 19th-century buildings in Budapest. After his death (1891), Alajos Hauszmann led the twenty-year process of rebuilding the castle. Another disaster that the castle did not survive was the siege and fighting for Budapest at the end of World War II. Post-war reconstruction lasted from the 1960s to the 1980s and gave the Budapest castle a modernist style. In recent years, however, the Hungarian government has launched a monument reconstruction program, the aim of which is to restore the architecture of the entire Castle Hill to the state designed by Ybla and implemented over a hundred years ago by Hauszmann.
