Katedra ormiańska we Lwowie

Armenian Cathedral of Lviv. Built by the Armenians between 1356 and 1363 on the site of a 12th-century wooden temple that burned down in 1353. Expanded after the union with Rome in 1630, when the main nave was built and the earlier temple began to serve as a chancel. The nave was raised in the years 1723–1731, when the vestibule was built, and the interior received baroque furnishings. At the beginning of the 20th century, Józef Teofil Teodorowicz became the new Archbishop of Lviv of the Armenian rite, who decided to rebuild and renovate the cathedral „in the Armenian spirit”. As a result of works that lasted with interruptions until 1938, among others: the cathedral was expanded towards the west (according to Franciszek Mączyński’s plans), a mosaic designed by Józef Mehoffer was placed in the dome, and paintings by Jan Henryk Rosen (1925-1929) were painted on the walls. After World War II, the cathedral served as warehouses for the Lviv National Art Gallery. At the beginning of the 21st century, the temple was handed over to the diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Church. Conservation works began in the cathedral in 2006, largely financed by the polish ministry of culture.
